Sabyasachi Mukherjee's Profile

Sabyasachi - this is an Indian name which means "Lord Arjun - one who can do many tasks together." Arjun was named Sabyasachi because he could aim an arrow with his both left and right hand. So Sabyasachi basically means a person who is ambidextrous.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is hailed as one of the most successful designer in the the fashion industry. I could write endless essays about him and his achievements etc. But I guess that would be a pointless exfffercise, as tons of information about Sabyasachi Mukherjee is flooded on the net. You can read more about his background on this web page by simple clicking here.

Having said that I would like to add there are certain things that I do know about Sabyasachi Mukherjee that you may find amusing.

Sabyasachi’s first job?
His first job was given to him by Koena Mitra as a choreographer for Miss Bengal. He worked very hard for a month and got a full pay check of Rs. 1000.

What did he do with this pay check? His family was not going through a hard financial time and he was not a big fan of the washing powder his mother used to wash their clothes. So Sabyasachi bought a dozen packets of the same detergent – the ones he liked. And yes his mother was rather annoyed with him but Sabyasachi was scared and believed that if the money was not spent it would get stolen!

Something people do not know about him.
In Sabyasachi’s own words - Hmm… I am not all that serious. I laugh a lot, even at public spaces. I have a slapstick sense of humor. When I went to see Mama Mia for the first time, I danced non stop on the aisle. If I see the heroine being molested and the hero rescues her like a knight in shining armor, I am the 1st one to clap and whistle. I had orange hair when I was in school. I dyed my hair 4 times in a span of one day. I have piercings in both my ears that I got in high school after being influenced by Madonna. And I love disco! I could listen to Donna Summers, Boney M, Bee Gees, Abba, and Nazia Hassan for the rest of my life.

If you weren’t a fashion designer, you’d be..?
In Sabyasachi’s own words - A horticulturist, I love being amongst nature and I think it would give me a lot of peace of mind. Currently we are encouraging our bougainvilleas to grow at home.
Or I would have liked to be a waiter in a cafĂ© in New York City. So I’ll get to meet a lot of exciting people.
